—Look, I pointed for Alice to see.
What
we were looking at was two men praying in the station office, located above the
main hall. They were facing Mecca, towards a great mountain with various
markings on, and in turn, they both knelt down – from the angle we were at, you
could see only their heads as they came back up, arms raised. This wasn’t at
all startling, except it was only then that I realised we were in a country
whose main religion was something other than Christianity. This was a land with
a completely different set of beliefs to our own, and whilst on streets back
home it is common to see people of many races and many religions, we had never
before been in the minority. Of course, there was no problem with this, it was
merely an observation I made, and we watched in respect as they prayed, trying
not to stare.
