In the morning, Alice and I shared the bathroom
again, and came downstairs to find Mandy walking about the kitchen, already
home from work (she worked early morning) and Ozcar helping her out by moving
plates around. They had set out a table in the garden, and walking into the kitchen,
I met a Mexican friend of Mandy’s, who spoke good English to me and Spanish to
the family.
We
all – except for Jonathan - sat outside to eat in the warm heat of the morning,
and Mandy made us papas a la HuancaĆna and tallrines verdes. Alice was wearing a
dress and I wore a white t-shirt, which I liked to do because it made me feel
like Neal Cassady. After we’d eaten, Ozcar asked us what we were up to today
and I said that we hadn’t many plans, except to go to Hardbrucke and I wanted
to take Alice up the Freitag structure, which is something I hadn’t done before
either, but Adam recommended.
Mandy
told us the story of how the Freitag company came to be in Zurich and of the
brothers, and I remembered how informative and of how accommodating the family
had been for our entire time in Switzerland.
